Gallery Events

June begins the hot summers of Arkansas and the hot-from-the-kiln works of our next exhibit, From the Fire: The Pottery of Maura Miller. Maura is hard at work making masterful pieces of clay for her show that opens June 13 during downtown's 2nd Friday Art Night from 5-8pm. This exhibit ends July 5th.

Escape the heat during our next 2nd Friday Art Night event from 5-8pm on July 11, when many of our artists will be in the gallery. Stop by to meet them in person!

Don't spend your last vacation days at Disneyland, come down to ArtSpace instead to see Intervals of Time and Space: The Paintings of LaDawna Whiteside. LaDawna's show opens during 2nd Friday Art Night on August 8 and ends September 6th.

What's in-store for September? Lots! If you're ready to start thinking about holiday shopping, we're ready for you. Come by during 2nd Friday Art Night on September 12 from 5-8pm and meet some of our artists and see their latest creations!

Halloween is just around the corner, and October's 2nd Friday Art Night event promises to be one you'll love. One of our most popular and long-term artists is finally having a show! Join us Friday, October 10 from 5-8pm for the opening of 'Eggs'travagant 'Eggs'cessories: A Grade A 'Eggs'hibition by Lynn Sudderth. This exhibit ends November 8.

November means the holidays are just around the corner, and our artists have been hard at work all-year long making the best in contemporary art and craft in the state of Arkansas. Come by during 2nd Friday Art Night on November 14 from 5-8pm and get your holiday shopping started or finished. You won't be disappointed!

Join us Friday, December 12 from 5-8pm during downtown's 2nd Friday Art Night for the opening of Playing with Fire: The Blown and Sculpted Hot Glass of Gary Carter. You won't want to miss this visual feast for the eyes! Gary's exhibit ends January 3, 2009.

Bravo to Gary Carter, Dr. Bob Miller, Nancy Brillos Henderson, and Helen Phillips, whose work was chosen for inclusion in the 2009 Arkansas Artists Calendar sponsored by the Arkansas Governor's Mansion Association.

Bravo to painter LaDawna Whiteside who was recently admitted to the Art Institute of Boston in Cambridge!

Bravo to painter Selma F. Blackburn! In February, her painting, "Queen II," was juried into the National Watercolor Society (NWS) All-Member Show in California. Already a signature member of NWS, and a frequent exhibitor through juried exhibitions, this will be Selma's first time to attend an NWS opening. In addition, her painting "Cozy Three" was juried into the Mid-Southern Watercolorists Society's spring exhibition that will take place at Historic Arkansas Museum, May - July 2008.

Congratulations to woodworker Doug Stowe who was featured in an article in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette entitled "Carving Out a Niche." Stowe's work was also recently featured on the cover of Fine Woodworking magazine.

Congratulations to Mick Hutchison whose work was shown in a recent interview with Senator Hillary Clinton and Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News!

We're thrilled that former President Clinton stopped by ArtSpace while he was in Little Rock. Our artists really appreciate his support of their work and the gallery.

Congratulations to Bill Garrison whose painting, "Perry County Creek," was selected as one of the top one hundred finalists in the Art Renewal Center’s International 2007 ARC Salon™. Bill's work was judged and selected to be among the best out of the 1600 plus entries received from around the world.

Congratulations to Selma F. Blackburn whose painting, “Chicka, Chicka, Boom-Boom” was included in the Art Across Arkansas installations for the 2007-2008 school year at Harrison High School. Selma also had two paintings accepted in the Mid-Southern Watercolorists’ Fall Exhibition currently on display at the River Valley Arts Center in Russellville, Arkansas.

Congratulations to Kathleen Bearden who won first place honors at the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salinas, Kansas.

Congratulations to Jim Mayfield whose photograph, "Maestro's Muses" was selected for inclusion in the 50th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center

Congratulations to Kendall Stallings whose work was featured in the June 2007 issue of Southwest Art magazine.

Congratulations to Selma F. Blackburn who won the Jackie Fish Memorial Award for her painting, "Everybody's Different," in the 2007 Mid-Southern Watercolorists' 37th Annual Exhibition.

Congratulations to Dr. Bob Miller who was commissioned to do a pen and ink drawing of one of the historic houses in Searcy, Arkansas. The drawing will be incorporated into a booklet being produced by the Arts Council and Historical Society to be used by second grade teachers in the the Searcy Public Schools.

We thank Channel 4 for stopping by the gallery to shoot a segment and interview our very own Selma F. Blackburn for an upcoming feature on Arkansas artists.

Congratulations to woodturner Ron Ufkes who won several blue ribbons and third place "best of show" during the North Arkansas Woodcarvers Show and Sale!

Congratulations to photographer Jim Mayfield who was featured in an article entitled, "Photographers Getting the Picture" in the Missouri News-Leader.

Congratulations to Winston Taylor who was commissioned to create a relief sculpture for the newly constructed sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Russellville, Arkansas. It is made of stoneware clay depicting a scene of Christ teaching by the sea of Galilee. It is 8 feet tall and two inches in diameter.

Congratulations to Ed Pennebaker and Winston Taylor whose work was featured in the December 2006 issue of The Ozarks Mountaineer. We're also thrilled they profiled our gallery as a great place to buy holiday gifts by local artists!

ArtSpace was featured in the summer 2006 issue of American Magazine, the alumni publication of American University in Washington, D.C. The owner of ArtSpace has a Master of Arts degree from AU and the story profiled several graduates around the country, highlighting the national reach of American University. We appreciate their support!

ArtSpace is proud to be partnering with our friends at Birch Tree Communities in Benton, Arkansas, and displaying artwork by members of their Expressive Arts Program for people with serious and persistent mental illnesses. We're thrilled to provide gallery space for these wonderful artists, and we hope visitors will be inspired by their great works of art.

ArtSpace was thrilled to be part of the June and July 2006 issues of Art Business News. The gallery was featured in the article entitled, "Galleries Go for the Buzz: When it Comes to Sales, Great Art Plus Dynamic Events Equals Success."

BIG NEWS! ArtSpace was proud to have been nominated for the 2006 NICHE Top Retailer Awards. More than 18,000 professional fine craft artists throughout the United States and Canada nominated nearly 700 galleries, retail stores, arts non-profits, museums, and guilds for the awards.

ArtSpace was proud to host the reception A Novel Affair in the gallery during the Arkansas Literary Festival! The gallery was packed with authors from around the country, and we were delighted to help the cause of literacy in Arkansas.

ArtSpace was proud to be featured in USA Today on Monday, April 17, 2006 in an article entitled "Little Rock Arts Scene Picks Up As Market Grows." We appreciate their fine words about our city and our gallery!

Congratulations to painter Les Waite whose artwork was featured in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Sunday, April 16, 2006!

Also, in the Democrat-Gazette the same day, images of the gallery were used in the High Profile section. Many thanks for their support of ArtSpace!

Congratulations to painter Les Waite who created the poster for the 2006 Women’s SEC Basketball Tournament held in Little Rock in March. Seven thousand five hundred posters were passed out at the event, and the original 36x48 painting was donated to Alltel Arena where it is hanging in the main lobby.

Congratulations to painter Amy Hill-Imler, and her husband Clarence who were featured on KTHV's Channel 11 News! Camera crews followed the Imlers around downtown as they commented on the art in different galleries during 2nd Friday Art Night!

Three of Kendall Stallings' paintings were chosen to hang at Southern Progress Corporation in Birmingham, Alabama. Southern Progress is the publisher of fine magazines such as Southern Living, Cooking Light, and Coastal Living. Congratulations Kendall!

Congratulations to painter Bill Garrison who received signature membership in the Artists of Northwest Arkansas Fall Exhibit. Signature membership requires being accepted into the show 5 times.

Congratulations to woodturner John Andre whose work was purchased by President Bill Clinton during a visit to ArtSpace while in Little Rock. President Clinton gave two of John's pieces to England's Prime Minister Tony Blair!

ArtSpace is proud that White House Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier chose our gallery as one of the sites on his book-signing tour. Chef Mesnier was at ArtSpace on Monday, November 15, signing copies of his newly published book, Dessert University: More Than 300 Spectacular Recipes and Essential Lessons from White House Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier. Book proceeds from the event benefited the Central Arkansas Library System. Photos of the event can be viewed on our Gallery Event Photos page.
