Helen Phillips
My art, whether sculptural or utilitarian, is, for me, a fusion of spirit and matter. The matter is my medium - clay. I have used it for forty-five years and still find it the most exciting material for me to convey the thoughts and feelings I have about living and dying. In this way, I can tell myself first, and then others, what those concerns are. Delight, anxiety,
extroverted involvement, introverted reflection, love, and fear are all there for the seeing. For those who pause, look, respond, and use my work in their own way, I can truly share my thoughts and feelings - an event that is always full of wonder for me.
