Ramona Buss
I was born in Bremen, IN in 1945 and grew up in the farm country of southern St. Joe County just south of the north-south continental divide. I spent many days as a child playing in the woods near our farm house learning to appreciate nature and the wild flowers in the spring and summer.

In 1975 I moved to Yellville, AR where I found the woods to be more beautiful and pristine than any I had ever been in. I then began my study in natural science, identifying wild flowers and trees. At the same time, I had always had an interest in fiber art such as weaving, crocheting, and simple loom weaving. I decided to try basket weaving and discovered that I could gather vine, bark, and branches to use in my weaving. This was a very exciting discovery for me because I saw that it would be another dimension into my interest in natural science!! So the adventure began!!
My weaving process is a free form, intuitive fiber manipulation inspired by the wild fibers that I gather from my woods. The vines and branches are used in designing the sculptural shapes. The bark and dyed reed are used as weavers.

I gather grapevines, Virginia creeper, winged elm branches, hickory bark, honeysuckle vines, and tamarisk sticks which enhance my forms with the wonder of the natural world.

I satisfy my passion for color by dyeing reed and sea grass with a combination of plant and procion dyes. This creates a large hue of colors in contrast with the gathered natural fibers.

My unique shapes and designs have evolved over the years with my vision and expression of nature.

I have been showing my work as a professional fiber artist at many of the top national art shows throughout the country.

I moved back to Yellville, AR in 2004 after spending seven years in Bremen, IN and Crete, IL. It is wonderful to be back in the beautiful woods of Marion County!!!
